Q:なぜ、再生紙なの？

​

広島に平和を思い、寄贈された千羽鶴は年間約10ｔ程にもなります。その大切な千羽鶴を再利用した紙がある事を知り、とても素敵な取り組みだと思いました。

世界から送られてきた平和を願う気持ちや優しい思いを、今度は違う形にして世界へお返ししていきたい。そんな思いから、再生紙を使用した商品作りを始めました。

​

「平和の思いをそばに。」という発想のもと、身に付けたり持ち歩いて頂ける商品にすることで、その商品を目にした時、優しい気持ちやほっこりした気分になり、そこには小さな平和が生まれるのではないかと考えました。

Q:Why recycled paper?
Thousands of paper cranes donated to Hiroshima in remembrance of peace amount to about 10 tons annually.
Learning that paper made from these precious cranes is being reused, I thought it was a truly wonderful initiative.
We wanted to take the wishes for peace and kindness sent from around the world and return them to the world in a different form. That desire led us to start creating products using recycled paper.
Based on the idea of “keeping the wish for peace close,” we thought that by making products people could wear or carry with them, seeing those items might evoke gentle feelings or a warm, fuzzy mood, creating a little peace wherever they go.

Q:千羽鶴100％再生紙とは？

​

よくある折り鶴再生紙は、折り鶴と一般の紙や牛乳パックを2：8位で混ぜた物が多く、少しおとなしい色合いです。もっといろいろな色や形の再生紙を探していたところ、障害のある方が働いている作業所で、手漉きの千羽鶴再生紙を制作されている所があると知り、お話を聞きに行きました。その作業所では何年も試行錯誤をして、メンバーの方々の努力の積み重ねで素晴らしい紙を作る事が出来るまでになったという事を聞き、深い感銘を受けました。

さらにいろいろな色が混在しているものが欲しいと熱望したところ、千羽鶴を100％の純度で入れた方が色合いが明るく、他所には無い面白い柄の再生紙が出来るのではないかということで、試作していただきました。当初はいろいろな折り紙の色を混ぜて作ると、灰色になってしまうのではないかと心配していましたが、出来上がった紙は見事にいろいろな形や色が融合されていて、アーティスティックなとても明るい色合いになっていました。

このようにして、千羽鶴100％再生紙が実現しました。こちらの再生紙は、障害のある方が時間を費やして育んだ技術をもとに作っていて、それは1日や2日では作れない物であり、それだけでも愛おしいと思うものです。

Q:What is 100% recycled crane paper?
Common recycled paper made from origami cranes is often a blend of about 20% origami cranes and 80% regular paper or milk cartons, resulting in a somewhat subdued color palette.
While searching for recycled paper with more varied colors and shapes, I learned of a workshop employing individuals with disabilities that produces handmade recycled paper from origami cranes. I visited to hear their story.
I was deeply impressed to learn that through years of trial and error and the cumulative efforts of its members, this workshop had achieved the ability to create truly remarkable paper.
When I expressed a strong desire for paper with a mix of various colors, they suggested that using 100% pure origami cranes might result in brighter hues and create recycled paper with unique, interesting patterns not found elsewhere. They kindly made a sample for me.
Initially, I worried that mixing various origami paper colors might result in a grayish tone. However, the finished paper beautifully fused the different shapes and colors, creating an artistic and remarkably bright hue.
This is how the 100% recycled paper made from thousand paper cranes came to be. This recycled paper is crafted based on skills nurtured over time by individuals with disabilities. It is not something that can be made in just a day or two, and that alone makes it deeply cherished.

 

Q:なぜ、カラフルにこだわるの？

このカラフルな再生紙を眺めていると、国籍、肌の色、性別、風習…すべての人々の織り成す色のそれぞれが共存している、認め合っているように見えます。どこの国のどんな人がどんな思いでこの色の折り紙を折ったのか、想像すると楽しいですね。

Q:Why do we only use 100% recycled crane paper and leave the natural colour alone?

I get the sense that the colour of the paper is telling me that we are all united. 
When I think about where all the paper cranes came from, I always get excited.
